Ryan Donato Assigned to Providence Bruins

22-Year-Old Boston Bruin Sent to Providence

General Manager of the Boston Bruins, Don Sweeny, announced on November 1st that the Bruins are assigning forward Ryan Donato to the Providence Bruins. The Providence Bruins being the AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, located in Providence Rhode Island.

Ryan Donato is a 22-year-old Scituate, Massachusetts native. He was chosen by the Bruins during the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft- being 56 overall. He has had one goal in 11 appearances with Boston during the current 2018-19 season. Following his junior season at Harvard University, in the 2017-18 season, Donato appeared in 12 regular season games with Boston. The six-foot 181 pound forward tallied five goals and four assists in said games. Additionally, Donato skated in three postseason games during the 2017-18 season.

In 2018, Ryan Donato received the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award goes annually to the best collegiate hockey player. Donato lead Harvard in scoring. He recorded 26 goals and 17 assists for a total of 43 points. During his last season with Harvard, Donato was the 4th in the NCAA in goals. Additionally, he had a plus-15 rating in 29 games. In the year prior, Ryan Donato surpassed his previous career high of 21 goals and 19 assists for a total of 40 points. These 40 points were achieved in seven fewer games than the season where he had 43 points.

Ryan Donato also played five games with Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Doing so, Donato missed four of Harvard’s games. Ultimately, Ryan Donato finished tied for the most goals in the Olympics with five, while his six points led all American players.
