Rookie Layne Riggs Takes FRM Back to Truck Victory Lane on Milwaukee Mile

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – A second-generation rising NASCAR star takes a maiden victory for a second-straight day. Despite the Milwaukee Mile kicking off the 2024 Truck Series Playoffs, non-contending rookie Layne Riggs pulled off an upset triumph. Front Row Motorsports’ No. 38 Ford F-150 goes back to victory lane, with its third different driver.

In a similar vein to Harrison Burton, Layne Riggs has grown up in the racing limelight and follows an impressive lineage. His father, Scott, was a nine-time winner between Trucks and Xfinity competition. Layne hopes to continue adding onto the family trophy case, after getting the elusive first win monkey off his back.

“I don’t even know how to describe it,” Riggs said. “The biggest thing I can do is thank Zorn that was on the truck this weekend. It was the first race and it’s awesome for them, and Love’s Travel Stops. It’s awesome. Thank you to Bob Jenkins and Jerry Freeze for letting me drive this truck. We’ve had a terrible year. It’s been an awful year. I’ve learned so much though in my rookie season. After the start I thought, ‘There was no way we were gonna get a win. We’re gonna do the best we can, but we’re just learning for next year.’ I knew in practice this thing was pretty awesome, so I couldn’t be more thankful to Front Row and everybody on this team. We have a good time together and we’re a family now.”

Riggs celebrated a bit too hard after climbing out of the truck, dislocating his shoulder before popping it back into place. “It hurts, but it was worth it. It’s not the first time it’s happened to me, but it ain’t gonna slow me down.”

Many of the Playoff drivers finished just behind Riggs. Ty Majeski, Christian Eckes, Nick Sanchez, and Taylor Gray were the top-five. Tyler Ankrum, Corey Heim, Ben Rhodes, Daniel Dye, and Matt Crafton rounded out the top-10. The lone contenders not in the top-10 were Grant Enfinger in 13th and 18th-place finisher Rajah Caruth.

The Truck Series Playoffs get back on track in late September. Race two of the opening round will take place at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday, September 19. The UNOH 200 goes green at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
