Chase Briscoe Named New Driver of No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Announced Tuesday, Joe Gibbs Racing has hired Chase Briscoe to a multi-year contract to drive the No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry XSE in the NASCAR Cup Series. Beginning in 2025, Briscoe and Bass Pro Shops, North America’s premier outdoor and conservation company, will start a partnership aboard the No. 19 Camry. Briscoe is filling the vacancy left by Martin Truex Jr’s retirement.

Briscoe, 29, is currently amidst his fourth full-time NASCAR Cup Series season. As of now he is ranked 16th in points following a runner-up result Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His first career victory came in March 2022 at Phoenix Raceway. This win spurred his career-best season to date. leading Briscoe to the NASCAR Playoffs Round of 8. He eventually wound up ninth in the final standings. Briscoe’s Cup Series tenure has been highlighted with 12 top-fives, 27 top-10s and two pole awards through 126 starts. The Mitchell, Indiana native was also Sunoco Rookie of the Year in 2021.

Briscoe’s racing career began on dirt tracks in Indiana before making the switch to stock cars in 2015. His résumé includes 11 Xfinity Series victories, including a series-leading nine wins in 2020, and a pair of Craftsman Truck Series victories. Briscoe also claimed Rookie of the Year honors in both series. Briscoe is one of only three drivers to earn top rookie honors across Cup, Xfinity, and Trucks (Erik Jones, William Byron). He is also the 2016 ARCA Menards Series champion.

“I’m excited for this opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing and Bass Pro Shops,” Briscoe said. “From a competition standpoint, JGR is the place to be if you want to go win races week in and week out and to race for the championship every year. I am blessed that Johnny Morris and Bass Pro are on board to help us carry on the legacy of the 19 car. For me personally, being an avid outdoorsman, there’s a lot of pride in now being a part of the Bass Pro brand and I’m extremely grateful for this partnership. Getting to meet Johnny, I feel like I share a lot of the same values as him and Coach. I’m ready to get to work and prove that they have made a great choice putting me in this car.”

Bass Pro will be the anchor sponsor for the No. 19 Camry in 2025. This starts with the season-opening Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Bass Pro’s long and illustrious racing presence only further extends a strong partnership. Bass Pro has used motorsports to help raise awareness for significant conservation initiatives and the great outdoors.

“We have been honored to stand beside Martin Truex Jr. for the last 21 years and together with our friends at Joe Gibbs Racing over the last six years,” said Johnny Morris, noted conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops. “We are proud to represent sportsmen and women across North America as we extend this relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing, Toyota and Chase Briscoe.”

Briscoe will be teamed up with crew chief James Small. Small has led Martin Truex Jr. to eight victories since taking over crew chief responsibilities in 2020. He led the No. 19 team to a runner-up finish in the 2021 Championship 4. This team also won the 2023 regular season championship.

“We are extremely excited about the future of our 19 team with Chase (Briscoe) behind the wheel and the partnership with Johnny, J.P. and everyone at Bass Pro Shops,” said Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. “I talk about it often, but one of the great things about our sport is the relationships you have the opportunity to build around your teams and certainly we are just so thankful to have that with everyone at Bass Pro Shops. We obviously do a lot of research before selecting our drivers and through the process everything kept pointing us back to Chase. With James’ (Small) leadership, Chase behind the wheel, and the support from Bass Pro, and of course Toyota, we couldn’t be more excited about the future of our 19 team.”

One of the six drivers left on the free agency market by Stewart-Haas Racing’s closure has now been accounted for. It will be fun to see how Briscoe and the No. 19 team mesh together in their first season. Ahead of then however, both Truex and Briscoe will continue to chase checkered flags in 2024.
