Richard Petty’s Grandson Gets First Full-Time NASCAR Opportunity with Brand New Team Faction46
LEVEL CROSS, N.C. – Thad Moffitt, the 23-year-old grandson of “The King” Richard Petty, will make his first foray into full-time NASCAR competition in 2024. The fourth-generation driver will compete in the Craftsman Truck Series with a brand new team, Faction46. This organization is led by Lane Moore, owner of Venture Food Stores, and will have an alliance with Chevrolet-backed Niece Motorsports. Veteran Truck Series crew chief Doug George will also help get this team off the ground.
“This is the opportunity that I’ve been waiting for,” said Moffitt. “I’m thrilled that Lane has put his trust in me to begin this new venture with him in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Faction46. This past year I had a full season the Trans Am Series, but always wanted to have the opportunity to race full-time in NASCAR and begin in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I’m pretty pumped up about this opportunity.”
Faction46 is a lifelong dream of Moore and funded through his company, Venture Food Stores. The team’s other sponsors include: Clean Harbors, Safety-Kleen, Customers Bank, Pristine Auction, Joe Jurgielewicz and Son – America’s Tastiest Duck, Induction Innovations and Best Working Wipes.
Moore is now creating a retail brand alongside Venture Food Stores. He hopes to help products reach more than 800 stores locations around key NASCAR markets through the race team. This sponsorship allows Moffitt the opportunity to have his most competitive season yet in his young NASCAR career.
“I’ve enjoyed working and getting to know the Petty family and Thad,” said owner, Moore. “It all accumulated to this day and the beginning of Faction46 and what I hope to be a long stay in NASCAR. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series offers some of the best, most exciting racing for both young and seasoned drivers. I’m proud to be part of the series with Thad as we earn the respect of the other teams. I have to thank Niece Motorsports for their assistance in helping us as we grow.”
Moffitt just completed his first full season in the Trans Am Series TA2 class. Racing for TeamSLR, Moffitt wound up seventh in the championship and second in the rookie standings with six top-10s. He will return to NASCAR competition, where he’s found some success in the ARCA Menard Series. Moffitt was fourth in that championship in 2021. Moffitt has four prior Truck Series starts, with a best finish of 18th at Daytona in 2022.
Faction46 will make their team debut in the Fresh From Florida 250 at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, February 16 on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
