CONCORD, N.C. – Jeff Gordon didn’t hide how happy he was for Kyle Larson and the No. 5 team post-race at the Charlotte Roval. Larson entered Sunday’s race only 15 points above the cutline and after a practice wreck sent the team to a backup car, they had a lot to overcome. Nevertheless, Larson’s 13th-place finish was enough to move the team on to NASCAR’s Round of 8.

“Listen, he takes it hard, he’s hard on himself,” Jeff Gordon said post-race. “He’s so competitive and he doesn’t like making mistakes, like anybody. But, it doesn’t take him long to kind of move on and move past that.”

Gordon went on to talk about Larson going to the shop Saturday with the team as they prepared the backup car and how Larson’s positivity with the crew members made him the most proud.
