Majeski’s Team Fined $25,000, Crew Chief Suspended Four Races for Improper Wheel
NASCAR officials have given out am L2-level penalty to Ty Majeski and the ThorSport Racing’s No. 98 Craftsman Truck Series team. The penalty stems from infractions discovered in pre-qualifying inspection Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile.
The No. 98 team was found in violation of NASCAR Rule Book Sections 14.16.1 and 14.16.1.A&C, referring to wheels and tires, more specifically to wheel assembly and valve stems. As a result, the organization and driver Ty Majeski were each docked 75 points and five Playoff points. Crew chief Joe Shear Jr. was also fined $25,000 and suspended for the next four Truck Series races, lasting through Homestead-Miami Speedway on October 21st. Shear will return in time for the Truck Series Championship race at Phoenix Raceway on November 3rd.
During Milwaukee inspection, officials confiscated the No. 98’s right-rear tire. Shear was ejected prior to the Clean Harbors 175 as well. Majeski was also mandated to start the race at the rear of the field and served a pass-through penalty on pit road.
Ty Majeski eventually finished seventh at Milwaukee. The 29-year-old had won the prior Truck race, the Playoff opener August 11th at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Due to this penalty, the No. 98 drops from fifth to 10th on the Playoff grid. Thanks to his IRP win however, Majeski is still locked into the next Playoff round. The five bonus points he got from the win are gone though. He will begin the Round of 8 in a deep points hole though, all but having to win to make the Championship 4.
