TALLADEGA, Ala. – Bubba Wallace took blame for a last-lap block that caused a crash and ended the race during the second overtime attempt at Talladega.
Wallace, who led 35 laps on the day, was racing for the win on the final lap when he made a decision to throw a block on Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney. The two cars made contact, sending Wallace around where numerous cars piled in.
The caution flag ended the race with Kyle Busch ahead of Ryan Blaney for the victory. Wallace limped his car back to pit road and threw his HANS device to the ground out of frustration. He’s been scored with a 28th-place finish.
“I pulled a late block,” Wallace said outside the infield care center post-race. “Close, close, close block and it just sent us around. Not the 12’s fault. I honestly thought he would leave me high and dry coming back around, so just hate it. Hate it for my team. That was our best, by far, plate race we’ve ever done. So, hats off to the 23 group…A great day for us, just a crap result. I caused that one.”
