Austin Hill Takes Second Career Win From Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. – The Georgia boy got perhaps the biggest win of his life at his home track. Austin Hill was unbeatable once he put his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet out front, leading the final 63 laps to his second Xfinity Series win. After being snakebitten several previous times in Atlanta, the Winston, Georgia native finally captures the checkered flag.

From the start, Atlanta’s new superspeedway package offered great side-by-side action. Stage 1 would be dominated by AJ Allmendinger, only for Josh Berry to steal the win at the end.

Split pit strategy saw RCR-aligned cars come to the front in Stage 2. On old tires, Sheldon Creed led for much of this Stage, but Austin Hill passed him on the last lap. Hill would take his first career Stage win in the No. 21 Chevrolet, and he did not stop there.

March Atlanta winner Ty Gibbs would also spend some time out front, after a big push by Riley Herbst. Unfortunately on a restart not long afterwards, Herbst gave the 54 another shove that ended with Gibbs in the wall. Far from defending his spring win, Gibbs left Atlanta in 35th.

With Gibbs done, Ryan Truex led a few laps in his final scheduled start in the JGR No. 18 Toyota. However, Truex’s time out front was short-lived, as Austin Hill powered back by the 18 on lap 101.

For the remainder of the day, Austin Hill just had to play defense out front, as nobody could challenge the 21. On the last lap, Daniel Hemric tried making a pass from third, but to no avail. Hill took his second career win, first since Daytona in February.

“What a car, RCR has been working their ever-loving tails off to bring some fast Chevy Camaros,” Hill said. “Our Bennett Transportation and Logistics Camaro was a rocket ship all day.”

“We just won at Atlanta, that’s so special. I’ve been trying to win here for a long time. Finished second here three times in a row, twice in a truck then earlier in the spring. This place owed me one, and we finally got one in Georgia, where I was raised about an hour down the road. This is going to be so special. I can’t wait to party, see my wife and kids, and all of my family. This will be a special one. To finally win on the big track here, is something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

Behind Hill, top finishers included Josh Berry, Ryan Truex, Tyler Reddick, Daniel Hemric, Noah Gragson, Justin Allgaier, Landon Cassill, Riley Herbst, and AJ Allmendinger.

With nine races left in their regular season, up next for Xfinity cars is New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Coverage of the Crayon 200 begins Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA Network, PRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. Can Loudon offer an upset winner, or will we see a familiar face holding the lobster in victory lane?
