Could Kyle Busch Step Away from Cup Series Racing after 2022?
TALLADEGA, Ala. – Kyle Busch spoke with the media on Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway and discussed the uncertainty surrounding his plans for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. Busch, 36, will lose his major partner, Mars Inc., as they step away from the sport at season’s end.
“I’m not getting antsy about it,” Kyle Busch said. “If it happens, it happens. If it don’t, it don’t. Goodbye.”
So could the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion really say goodbye to Cup Series racing so soon? Would Joe Gibbs Racing truly allow him to get away? Busch cites the upcoming wave of drivers who come with money as a potential reason why.
“Gotta sell it,” Busch said. “If you don’t sell it, there’s nothing to have. Truck Series is probably 95% kids with money.”
So what about another race team? As hard it is to think of Kyle Busch leaving Joe Gibbs Racing, would he entertain the thought of changing organizations? Kyle says probably not. In fact, he wouldn’t even consider running a full schedule in another series.
“I’ll probably be Brexton Busch’s truck driver,” Busch concluded.
As tough as it is to imagine Kyle Busch exiting the Cup Series so soon, drivers like Ty Gibbs are quickly racing up the ladder with dollars backing them. We know it’s coming, but have we finally reached the time in our sport where money outweighs a talent like Kyle Busch?
Surely, they’ll have no problem scraping together some sort of sponsorship for him, right? I suppose only time will tell.
