Joey Logano Throws Late Block on Final Lap of Duel 2 Causing Wreck
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Joey Logano wasn’t happy with his last lap block on Chris Buescher in the final lap of the Bluegreen Vacations Duel #2. Logano, who was leading at the time, moved down to defend the top spot when Chris Buescher had just gotten a nose underneath the No. 22. The contact sent Logano into the outside wall where he was hit by fellow Ford teammate Harrison Burton.
“This one was my fault,” Logano said after being released from the infield care center. “I knew as the leader I was a bit of a sitting duck. At worst I was going to finish fourth and was gonna try to let it play out. Didn’t think the 17 was going to get a run that quick. He didn’t fall back that far but he came to me so fast. I reacted to try and block it but I should have just let it happen and tried to race from there. Just messed up…dumb mistake, that’s all there is to it. I’m not perfect.”

As a result of the heavy contact, Logano will move to a backup car and start from the rear of Sunday’s Daytona 500. As for Harrison Burton’s No. 21 machine, the car held up surprisingly well and was able to be repaired.
“We were working together early pretty well,” Burton said after having a conversation with Logano. “I was trying to figure out what I could do to be better. I felt like we had good teamwork going on there so that was good. The last deal just seemed like a racing deal. Just tough to see what happened from my perspective. Unfortunately, we kind of got grabbed in it but I think we’ll be alright, these cars are pretty tough.”
