Round Of 16 Wednesday Update, Lyon, Roma and United In
The Champion League group stage wraps up on Wednesday with several key matches. Several slots and positions were still at stake.
Bayern Munich, Ajax, Real Madrid, Roma, Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United were all through. However, Lyon and Shakhtar would clinch a spot on Tuesday with a draw or win respectively. Additionally, there was a slight chance for Lyon to take the group had they gone down.
Here is the break down given the results from Tuesday:
Group E
- Bayern Munich – through as the group winner.
- Ajax Amsterdam – through despite the draw against the group leader to 3-3.
Group F
- Manchester City– through as the group winner.
- Lyon – through as group runner albeit to a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar who also had a chance.
Group G
- Real Madrid – through as the group winner despite losing to CSKA Moscow twice in group stages and the latter a 0-3 lost at Santiago Bernabeu.
- AS Roma – through as the runner up despite also losing in their last match against Viktoria Plzen.
Groups H
- Juventus – through as the group winner. The Italian side was unable to defeat Young Boys in last match and lost 2-1.
- Manchester United – through as group runner-up, but was far from showing its best performance.
The Round of 16 draw will take place on Monday, December 17 from UEFA’s Swiss headquarters in Nyon.
