Sam Mayer Parked for Phoenix after Post-Race Wreck at Martinsville

NASCAR announced in their weekly penalty report on Tuesday that Sam Mayer will not be competing at Phoenix Raceway. This suspension follows a post-race altercation in turn one at Martinsville Speedway last Saturday, where Mayer turned Jeb Burton into the outside wall. NASCAR officials say that Mayer violated Rulebook Sections 4.4.B: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct.

Both Mayer and Burton shared reactions after this incident to TSJSports’ Noah Lewis.

Haas Factory Team has also announced that fellow Ford Xfinity Series driver Ryan Sieg will pilot the No. 41 Mustang in Mayer’s absence.

Other penalties stemming from Martinsville include a two-race suspension for two crew members from Rick Ware Racing. The No. 51 Ford lost a wheel on track midway through Sunday’s Cup Series race. The suspension will be in effect Sunday at Phoenix and the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium (Feb. 1, 2026).

Shane Gray, the father of Saturday’s Xfinity Series winner Taylor Gray, was also given an indefinite suspension for an unspecified behavioral infraction. He also violated Rulebook Sections 4.4.B.
