Yankees Acquire Jameson Taillon From Pirates

The Yankees have acquired starting pitcher Jameson Taillon from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for four prospects. The Pirates are sending pitchers Miguel Yajure and Roansy Contreras, infielder Maikol Escotto and outfielder Canaan Smith to the Yankees.

Taillon is the former number 2 overall pick from the 2010 MLB Draft. He missed most of the 2019 season and all of 2020 due to Tommy John surgery. However, when healthy, Taillon has shown some tremendous upside and can prove to be extremely valuable to the Yankees’ rotation. He joins Corey Kluber as the recent additions to New York’s starting rotation. Both can prove to be very beneficial to the Yankees as their starting five currently lacks experience and depth.

Yankees Starting Rotation Possibilities

Currently, the Yankees rotation consists of Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino (returning from Tommy John), Corey Kluber, and Jameson Taillon. The Yankees have a lot of options for the last spot in their rotation. With re-signing Masahiro Tanaka uncertain, the Yankees will primarily look at Jordan Montgomery, Deivi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt, or Domingo German to fill things out.

Offensively, there is no question the Yankees are in great shape. The bullpen is solid, however, their starting rotation is the question mark. Outside of Gerrit Cole, the Yankees came into the offseason with no real answers for the rest of their starting staff. Adding Kluber and Taillon have been low-risk, high-reward gets and can be very valuable down the stretch.
