Mets Weekly Wrap-Up #10: Mets Return Home After Shaky Road Trip

After a very tough road trip against the Dodgers and D-Backs, the Mets will return home to continue their stretch against the NL West. The Mets will welcome in the Giants and Rockies for a three-game set against each team. After that, the Mets will head to the Bronx for the first glimpse of the Subway Series this year.

What Went Wrong For The Mets?

The bullpen was perhaps the biggest weakness during this road trip. Two keys games were lost (Wednesday against L.A. and last night against Arizona). In both of these games, the bullpen was given a three-run and four-run lead respectively and lost of them. The bullpen just hasn’t been consistent enough as they now hold 4.87 bullpen ERA. Bullpen consistency will be huge for this team down the stretch.

Another weakness is the Mets struggles in general on the road. They are currently 13-22 when playing away from Citi Field this year (which is the second worst away record in the NL). For a team that is still very much in the hunt for a postseason birth, they are going to have to win on the road to have any realistic chance in 2019.

Some Positives For The Mets

Even though the Mets had a 2-5 road trip, there were some positive signs. One of which is Todd Frazier. Over the past few weeks, Frazier has improved his line to .250/.302/.389 with 12 runs scored and 11 RBIs. After struggling when he first started this year, Frazier has shown he can still be an everyday player for the Mets. Another positive is Wilson Ramos. After Ramos struggled to start the year, his average has climbed back up to .269 (which is second on the team among qualified hitters). With some of the veteran Mets hitters contributing, it is only a matter of time before it rubs off on the rest of the lineup.

What Lies Ahead

The Mets will have a great opportunity this week at home to make a push in the standings. The Giants will come in for three games (who are currently last in the NL West) and the Rockies also for three games. The Mets are 15-9 at home while the Giants and Rockies are both under .500 on the road.
