Alonso Ends Mets Four-Game Skid With Go-Ahead Homer

After a tough night against Chris Paddack, Pete Alonso bounced-back with 4 RBIs including a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning off Adam Warren. On the mound, Noah Syndergaard got the start for the Mets. Thor went six innings allowing four runs on nine hits, one walk, and struck out five. Seth Lugo earned the win as he pitched two shutout innings of relief before Edwin Díaz came in to lock down his ninth save of the season. The Mets will look to win the series against San Diego later today as Wilmer Font (1-0 with a 5.79 ERA with Tampa Bay) makes his Mets debut against Matt Strahm (1-2 with a 3.03 ERA).

Game Recap

The Mets struggling offense got started early against the Padres. They scored two runs thanks to RBI singles from Amed Rosario and Pete Alonso. After Eric Hosmer got the Padres on the board with an RBI groundout, Franmil Reyes and Ty France each homered. In the sixth, Hunter Renfroe added an RBI single to make it 5-2 Padres.

The Mets offense would remain quiet until the seventh inning. Pete Alonso added an RBI single, Michael Conforto hit a sac fly, and then struggling Brandon Nimmo laced a game-tying RBI double. And then, in the top of the ninth, Pete Alonso stepped to the plate with a man on and CRUSHED a two-run shot to left field. Díaz would then come in a shut the door on a huge win for the Mets.

Robinson Canó Make History

After going 4-5 last night, Canó’s first hit marked the 2,500th hit of his MLB career. He is now sixth all-time among players born in the Dominican Republic and is the 101st player in Major League history to reach such a feat. Canó now has 1,649 with the Yankees, 821 hits with the Mariners, and 33 hits in his first year with the Mets.
