Giants Complete Comeback; Stun Reds In Extras

It was not looking good for the Giants through three innings of Friday nights game against the Reds. After losing for three straight years at Great American Ballpark, it was looking like it would be another game to add. Giants starter Tyler Beede was making his first start on the year and looked pretty good. But unfortunately, Derek Dietrich did not care about that, hitting two three-run home runs in three innings. It was 8-0 after three. The Giants began to chip away. Scoring three in the 4th only to be responded by two runs from the Reds, making the score 10-3 at the end of the Fifth. It looked to be one of those games for the Giants.

But, it would turn out to be anything but another game.

The Giants comeback would be lead by Stephen Vogt, making his Giants debut. The catcher would have a monster game back. Going 3-3 with two RBI’s including the game-tying home run in the 9th with two outs off Reds pitcher Raisel Iglesias.

The former A’s backstop was elated after the game. “Just so blessed and happy to be back in the big leagues and playing for this team. To get a chance to come into a game and contribute to a comeback win like that, it really was just emotional. To play a part in it and be in this situation less than a year out of surgery, I’m kind of at a loss, to be honest. Even in your wildest dreams, you don’t dream up a situation like this.”

The other hero was Evan Longoria. Going 3-5 with 2 RBI’s and securing the Giants win with a home run down the left field line to give the Giants their first lead of the game. In the 12th Inning. Longoria said after his bases-clearing double against the Dodgers that he had been waiting for that hit in a Giants uniform for a long time. Now he has another memorable performance in a Giants uniform.

Final: Giants 12 – Reds 11

It would appear that the Giants finally got the Great American Monkey off their back. And they might have done it in the most improbable way possible. The team somehow struggled for hits in a hitter-friendly park. But Friday night they were able to scrape together 12 runs and pick up the kind of win that jump-starts a team. Hopefully, this has set a tone for the rest of the road trip, and the rest of May.
