Noah Syndergaard Throws Mets First Complete Game Of 2019

Today’s Mets win was all about Noah Syndergaard as he threw the Mets first complete game of the 2019 season. Thor went all nine innings allowing no runs on four hits, one walk, and had 10 strikeouts. This is the third complete game of his career; he threw a complete game allowing one run against the Giants last year, and he closed out the Mets season last year with a complete game shutout against the Marlins.

Game Recap

The Mets early afternoon game against the Reds went by quick as Syndergaard cruised through the Reds lineup. He improved his record to 2-3 on the year and lowered his ERA to 5.02. Syndergaard threw 104 pitches and 74 of them were strikes. What was different for Noah today? Instead of having his hair in a ponytail (like he has all year), Thor let the hair fly today. Call me superstitious, but maybe Noah should keep his hair down more often.

He was also the only source of offense for the Mets today. Syndergaard homered off Reds starter Tyler Mahle to the give the Mets the 1-0 lead; a lead in which Thor would not give way. This is the sixth time Syndergaard has homered in his career, which is good for second on the all-time Mets pitchers list (Dwight Gooden currently holds the record with seven homers).

For the Reds, it was a struggle all day long and it was capitalized in the ninth inning. Jesse Winker, who “mocked” Mets fans by waving at them after making a game-saving catch the other night, was ejected for arguing balls and strikes along with manager David Bell. As Winker walked off the field, Mets fans waved at Winker and got a little “revenge.”

However, there was one bright spot for the Reds today. Starter Tyler Mahle was great as he went seven innings allowing four hits, one run (the Syndergaard homer), and struck out seven.

Next Up For The Mets

After splitting the four-game set with the Reds, the Mets will head on a six-game road trip. During this road trip, the Mets will have three games against the Brewers in Milwaukee, and then the team will travel to San Diego to battle the Padres for the first time this year.
