One of the most publicized stories in all of NASCAR is that of Jimmie Johnson’s winless streak. As the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway, Johnson’s winless streak sits at 65 races. This is a streak that nobody ever thought they would see. Johnson who has been so exceptional for so long in this series going winless for such a stretch seems almost impossible. This is a driver who has amassed 83 wins and 7 championships in his storied career. Yet it has been since June 4th of 2017 that we have seen Johnson pull the 48 car into victory lane.

Johnson’s Career at Texas

However, a trip to Texas Motor Speedway could be exactly what Johnson needs to get out of his slump. Throughout his career, Texas Motor Speedway has been one of Johnson’s best tracks. He holds the track record for most wins as he has gone to victory lane 7 times in his career at the 1.5-mile oval. He also holds the record for most laps led at 1,052. Johnson won three straight races at the track between 2014 and 2015. He is the only driver to accomplish this feat at the track. His last win came in the Spring race of 2017 so he has had recent success at the track.

If there is one thing the field doesn’t want to see it is Jimmie coming to Texas with a fast race car. Unfortunately for them he has just that this weekend. As Johnson managed to notch his first pole of the 2019 season on Friday and he has shown speed all weekend in practice. This could cause problems for the competition as Johnson is certainly hungry for a win. So if it’s out in front of him for the taking he will do anything to get back to the winner’s circle. So if this weekend practice and qualifying hold any stock than the 48 is going to be tough to beat on Sunday.
