The Warriors Mount a Comeback to Defeat The 76ers in Prime Time 120-117

The Warriors made yet another appearance in prime time on Saturday night, as they sought retribution after suffering a loss at the hands of the 76ers earlier this year. No, this is not a case of deja vu. Klay Thompson was not available for the Warriors this time around either. Last time, it was due to an illness. This time it was due to soreness in his knee. Ironically, the odds were evened on the other side by Joel Embiid not being active due to knee issues of his own. This served as a one-off appearance for the Warriors as they played their only game of the season at the Wells Fargo Center. On a night of the 57th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlains 100-point game, the Warriors overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat the Sixers 120-117 in prime time.

KD Makes a Splash While Getting His Boogie On…

Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 34 points (2-7 three-pointers, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists), but his struggles from the free throw line continued. In an ugly trend for Durant, he missed 4 of his 14 free throw attempts. However, he was not the reason why the fans in attendance got a free frosty from Wendys. DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins, who keeps showing signs of improvement, scored 25 points (1-2 three-pointers, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals). Nevertheless, he missed two of his free throw attempts in a row. This sent the pro 76ers crowd into a frenzy, anticipating their free treats. This marked three straight 20-point efforts for Cousins over the past week!

Steph Curry was up to his usual tricks (28 points, 5 three-pointers, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists). Rather than his usual partner in crime, he received support from his Splash Brother-in-law. Damion Lee is currently on a two-way contract with the Warriors (Golden State and Santa Cruz) and is on a mission to earn that 15th roster spot for the Warriors. He displayed further proof that just about anyone in the Curry family is accurate from behind the arc. He went (4-5) from downtown, contributing 12 points in the process.

Proceeding Without The Process

With Joel Embiid being sidelined this left some mighty big shoes to fill. Jonah Bolden stepped in and presented some challenges for his counterpart “Boogie” Cousins. Bolden was accurate with his three-point shooting (4-5 three-pointers) racking up 12 points. The newly acquired Mike Scott made his presence felt as well. Scott was a problem for the Warriors by stretching the floor and putting on a three-point clinic (6-9 three-pointers), bringing his tally to 22 points. Ben Simmons added yet another triple-double to his collection (25 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists). Jimmy Butler (21 points, 9 rebounds) and Tobias Harris (20 points, 9 rebounds) totals virtually mirrored one another.

Although this was a pretty solid effort from both the Sixers starters and their bench, Embiid’s presence was sorely missed. The two-time all-star plans to return this upcoming week. The 76ers face the Magic this Tuesday. We will just have to wait and see if he returns for a duel against the up and coming Magic, who recently moved into the 8th place spot in the Eastern Conference.

Possible NBA Finals Preview?

The Warriors and Celtics entered this season as the favorites of their respective conferences to face off in the NBA Finals. Although Golden State currently sits on top of the Western Conference, Boston has had quite a tumultuous season. The last time that these two squads went head to head in a prime time matchup, the Warriors bested the Celtics 115-111. Will Boston be able to build on the momentum from their recent win and even the season series? Or will the Warriors deliver the knockout blow, landing bragging rights as they capture their second victory against Title Town’s finest? Tune in to find out!
