Chelsea’s Passion Push Past The Spurs

What a month it has been. February is the month of love, however Chelsea have felt not attraction whatsoever. The Manchester gauntlet saw Chelsea crash out of the FA Cup. Chelsea followed that up by losing the Carabao Cup final in dramatic fashion with a second loss to Manchester City in a matter of weeks. After a public rift between Maurizio Sarri and Kepa Arrizabalga and the potential of a transfer ban, Chelsea will be hoping to close out this month strong. However, an angry Tottenham invade Stamford Bridge after falling to 15th place Burnley this past weekend. Both teams will be looking to get their cars back on redemption road today.

Sarri’s Redemption

You cannot play the victim to the circumstances you create. Maurizio Sarri’s actions between Kepa lead to the young Spaniard on the bench today. However this rift may have invigorated the locker room. Chelsea came out guns blazing. Tottenham’s change in formation allowed them to tame the pressure of the eager home side in the early stages. A moment of bliss would come for the home side in the 57th minute. Pedro would receive a ball from his fellow countryman Azpilicueta and then carve up Alderweirld in his route to goal. The Chelsea striker would leave Tottenham’s defender embarrassingly in the dust and put away the goal between Hugo Lloris legs to put Chelsea up. The blues would be the beneficiaries of the daunting own goal by Kieran Trippier in the closing minutes of the match to seal the victory for the blues.

Good, But Not Good Enough

Today’s win for the blues was the silver lining after a tumultuous month. Chelsea’s first action back in league action since their six goal drubbing at the hands of Manchester City was a good result. Chelsea will be traveling to Fulham this Sunday hoping to continue their ways. The blues are currently sitting sixth in the table, three points behind Arsenal, and with a game in hand. Tottenham’s week does not get any easier. The Spurs hosting an in form Arsenal this Saturday hoping to keep their dim title hopes alive. Maurizio Sarri will like this sense of aggression and passion his side showed and will hope to keep his team going in the right direction.
