SmackDown Recap for the January 29, 2019 Episode of SmackDown Live
Hour One
If you missed this week’s show, there’s a few things that you need to know before heading into the new week. The show begins with a recap of the Women’s Royal Rumble match. It then transitions to recap Becky Lynch going to Monday Night RAW to challenge Ronda Rousey.
Becky Lynch takes to the ring. She says the beginning of the Royal Rumble didn’t go her way because she lost to Asuka, but, unlike Ronda Rousey, she doesn’t crumble when she loses. Becky says she is proud of the way she worked her way up the ranks in WWE, despite what Ronda said. She promises to break Ronda’s arm at WrestleMania.
Charlotte Flair makes her way to the ring. She congratulates Becky on winning a match she wasn’t even in. She says it was her that brought Becky to the main event and that Becky should thank her for doing that.
Becky punches Charlotte in the face. Becky starts walking up the ramp, but Charlotte jumps her. They brawl ringside before referees break them up.
United States Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs R-Truth
Result: Truth pins Shinsuke
- Before the match, Truth cuts a promo. He says he never got to enter the Royal Rumble thanks to Nia Jax. Truth says if he wasn’t attacked, he would’ve won the match. So, since he didn’t get to compete in the Royal Rumble, he gets to have a title match against Shinsuke Nakamura
- Truth wins after a surprise roll-up
After the match, Rusev and Lana come out. Rusev says R-Truth doesn’t deserve to be United States champion. Rusev challenges Truth to a title match; Truth accepts the challenge.
United States Championship: R-Truth (c) vs Rusev
Result: Truth pins Rusev
- Truth wins with a roll-up
After the match, Nakamura returns to attack R-Truth. Shinsuke throws Truth back into the ring. Shinsuke and Rusev take turns beating up Truth.
Cut to backstage after commercial to show Becky Lynch leaving the arena. Kayla Braxton asks her why she is refusing medical attention. Becky says she can’t afford any more time on the shelf.
Rey Mysterio goes to the ring for a match with Samoa Joe. However, Zelina Vega comes out instead of Joe. Vega says she knows Rey is responsible for her barring last week during his match with Andrade because, in her opinion, he’s distracted by her. While he’s focusing on Zelina, Andrade attacks Rey from behind. Andrade beats up Mysterio, even giving him the Three Amigos. Rey breaks out of the third suplex, and attempts the 619, but Andrade fights back and gives Rey the Hammerlock DDT.
Backstage in the locker room, Gallows and Anderson confront Rusev about what he did to R-Truth. Rusev tells them to mind their business. Gallows and Anderson challenge Rusev and Nakamura to a match. Rusev says he’ll team with Shinsuke, but it’ll never happen again.
Shane McMahon and The Miz head to the ring to celebrate their SmackDown Tag Team title win. Shane says that along with winning the tag team titles, he has a surprise for Miz he will never forget. To show his appreciation, Shane shows Miz a promo package he had put together.
Shane introduces Miz’s dad to the ring. They share a hug after Miz’s dad says he’s proud of his son.
Shane says he wants to defend the tag team titles because he’s a fighting champion. He sets up a Four-Way Elimination Tag Team match to determine the new number one contenders.
Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose declare themselves for the Women’s Tag Team Elimination Chamber match because it is their time. Mandy Rose says her hate for Naomi stems farther than Jimmy Uso. She explains that it all started on Tough Enough four years prior.
Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Elimination Match: Heavy Machinery vs The Usos vs The Bar vs The New Day
Result: The Usos are the last team standing
Daniel Bryan comes to the ring. Bryan says that all the fans won because he is still the planet’s champion. He says he found someone who understands everything he’s trying to teach and brings out Rowan.
Rowan brings a trashcan into the ring. Daniel insults the WWE Championship belt. He says that this title is a disgrace because it’s made from a cow and symbolizes everything wrong with the WWE Universe.
Daniel reveals a new title belt made from hemp and wood.
AJ Styles comes out because he is not happy about the way Daniel Bryan threw away the old WWE Title. Randy Orton comes out and the show cuts to commercial. After commercial, Jeff Hardy has teleported to the ring and Mustafa Ali is coming to the ring. Samoa Joe shows up and rips into each man standing in the ring. Triple H, because you can never have too much people on screen at once, makes an Elimination Chamber match for Elimination Chamber for the WWE Championship between Ali, Joe, Bryan, Styles, Orton, and Hardy.
Because of Triple H’s announcement, everyone begins to brawl as the show ends.
