The Return of Higuain

Coming off an embarrassing display in the mid-week, Chelsea’s resiliency is sure to be tested. With talks of Maurizio Sarri having troubles motivating his squad, the blues did him no favors in their match against Bournemouth. With all eyes on their clash with Manchester City next week, Chelsea must not fall into another trap game. Huddersfield are currently last in the Premier League table and therefore are desperate to get out of the relegation zone. A match against a team like Chelsea who are currently in a soul-searching debacle, may just be what the doctor ordered. It may have only been one game, but Higuain may finally be the solution to Chelsea’s striker problems.

Higuain’s Heroics

No one enjoys being on the outside looking in, and that was exactly where Chelsea found themselves today in league standings. However, the arrival of Higuain had not created the immediate splash one would hope for with a new signing. The Argentinian showed his value today by netting a brace in today’s dominating performance. Higuain’s true form would be shown in his second goal where he would launch a screamer into the upper 90 from outside of the box. Chelsea’s Belgian talisman would not be outdone as he would net a brace of his own. Luiz would cap off the rout of Huddersfield with a late header to secure the five goal victory.

Manchester Ready

Bullying the bottom was the perfect medicine for a team dealing with an inconsistent form. Huddersfield may have not offered much of a challenge for the home team, but it did allow other forms of encouragement. As a result, Higuain was able to grab his first goal while Kepa kept a clean sheet in league play for the first time since early January. After today’s result, all focus is now turned to the clash with Manchester City. Additionally, with Tottenham’s win today and their continue rise in the table, next week’s match will be essential for Chelsea. Also, the Blues cannot allow the gap in the top four to continue to grow. Chelsea, along with the rest of the league, will be closely watching the match between Arsenal and City on Sunday. With a draw, Chelsea will be in sole possession of the fourth spot in the table.
