Dallas Cowboys’ Wide Receiver Cole Beasley Expresses Frustration, Wants a Bigger Role

Dallas Cowboys’ slot receiver Cole Beasley sent out a string of tweets on Tuesday that had many followers questioning his future in Dallas. His four-year, $14 million contract expires as he enters his eighth NFL season. It’s clear that Cole Beasley is looking to make an impact in the NFL, not just a paycheck. Beasley mentioned how he values his role on the team over money on Twitter:

Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot are the centers of the Cowboys’ run-heavy offense. Although Beasley is a premier slot receiver, it’s unlikely for a receiver in the Cowboys’ system to have a high-reception year.  The SMU graduate again took to Twitter to express this very frustration:

The Questions…

How Valuable is Cole Beasley?

There is no doubt that Beasley is a reliable, potentially elite slot receiver. However, he might be asking too much — at least from what his Twitter posts suggest. The 5’8″ receiver was targeted 87 times this season, but was only accountable for 65 receptions. The Cowboys threw 22 touchdowns this year, yet Beasley only managed 3.

This was the year for the nine-year veteran to make a significant impact. The Cowboys didn’t have a lot of depth at receiver, but Beasley did not live up to expectations. Instead, the front office made the decision to trade for Amari Cooper, a proven threat at the position.

Where Could Cole Beasley End Up?

It seems like the majority of the NFL is either in need or, at least could use a high-caliber receiver. For instance, look at the Tennessee Titans. They need a reliable receiver to help push their offense to the next level.

The Indianapolis Colts also need another target to help take the focus off T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron.

Second-year quarterback Josh Rosen for the Arizona Cardinals, meanwhile, could definitely use the presence of Cole Beasley. A new addition at WR is especially significant for Arizona, with Larry Fitzgerald set to play his final season.

Finally, the Baltimore Ravens need a receiver to help balance their offense. Wide-out duo Michael Crabtree and John Brown are both on the verge of leaving Baltimore. Whether Cole Beasley stays in Dallas or is signed somewhere else, he will be seeking to make an impact as a top-tier slot receiver next season.
