John Cena Possibly Out of this Sunday’s Royal Rumble Match Due to Injury

Just when life couldn’t possibly get any more unfair, John Cena is supposedly out of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

According to CagesideSeats (so take this with a grain of salt), John Cena is suffering from an ankle injury. This apparently happened during the Fatal Four-Way match a few weeks ago on Monday Night RAW. It originally started out as a minor strain, but it became worse after training for his Royal Rumble appearance.

This is being reported by WWE themselves. Because of this, many think this is just a work to get a bigger pop for Cena when he enters the Royal Rumble on Sunday. This seems likely, as WWE usually over-exaggerates the extent of injuries sometimes to build extra hype for a return. Cena himself has not gone on record to discuss his status. But, again, this could all be just to build more hype for the pay-per-view event.

Back in 2007, when John Cena had a pectoral tear, WWE said it would take almost a year for him to return. Four months later, at the 2008 Royal Rumble, Cena returned at the number thirty spot. Since it is still considered one of the best Royal Rumble moments of all time, announcing the injury and letting the appearance be a surprise, it’s definitely effective to use this method.

If Cena is in fact injured, then we wish him a full and speedy recovery. If not, and this is just to build more hype for the show, then how dare you, John? How dare you play the Cenation like that? I believed in you, John. And now you’ve gone and done this. How could you?
