SmackDown Recap for the January 15, 2019 Episode of SmackDown Live
Just to recap what this new series is, I will personally recap each episode of RAW, SmackDown Live, and NXT. Not a lot of people can stomach today’s product. Not a lot of people have the time to sit and watch WWE tv. That’s why my tens of loyal fans have this recap review to read every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Hour One
The show opens up with “The Man” Becky Lynch showing the world she’s an SUV kind of girl. Kayla Braxton approaches her and asks about her match with Asuka at Royal Rumble. Becky tells her why talk when she can prove it in the ring. She tosses Kayla her keys like the interviewer is her valet and heads for the ring.
Along the way, she stops by a table set up in the backstage area. Heavy Machinery and The New Day are huddling around the table while Otis and Tucker put together a rather “appetizing” protein shake.
Otis offers Becky a sip of it. Becky chooses to drink an entire mouthful of the drink, making all five men cringe. She buries the drink, calling it “a little weak”, then heads for the ring.
Becky takes to the ring. She talks about how she is going to beat Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She says that being “The Man” is a lot tougher than anyone can understand. Becky says she is ready for Asuka, which makes the current champion appear on the stage.
Asuka tells Becky she is all hype and no substance. She says after she losses to her at Royal Rumble, Becky won’t be in Charlotte’s shadow anymore. Instead, she’ll be in Asuka’s.
The IIconics interrupt and tell Asuka she isn’t acting like a true champion. They say they will both win the Royal Rumble match and win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Becky says she’ll prove why she’s the talk of the women’s division and challenges either Peyton or Billie to a match.
Women’s One on One Match: Becky Lynch vs Peyton Royce
Result: Becky submits Peyton
- The camera cuts back to the backstage area a few times to show Lacey Evans watching the match
- Becky wins with the Dis-Arm-Her
Asuka takes to the ring and challenges Billie Kay to a match.
Women’s One on One Match: Asuka vs Billie Kay
Result: Asuka submits Billie
- Asuka taunts Becky by using the Dis-Arm-Her
- Billie almost gets the upset win by rolling up Asuka
- Asuka wins with the Asuka Lock
Asuka and Becky Lynch stare each other down in the ring after Asuka’s match.
AJ Styles walks out during Asuka and Becky’s stare down. AJ jumps the barrier into the crowd, instead of going into the ring. After commercial, AJ is shown in the concessions area. It’s hard to hear him because the crowd is too loud, but he’s basically calling Daniel Bryan out for not liking hotdogs and t-shirts. Daniel rushes AJ from the crowd. They brawl until AJ drives Daniel through a hotdog table.
A few photos recap R-Truth and Carmella’s trip to WWE Headquarters in Stamford, CT.
The Usos are seen in a photo shoot. Jimmy recieves a present from a backstage attendant. Jey reads off the note. It says “I’ve been a naughty girl, lock me up in the Uso penitentiary”. Jimmy thinks it’s from Naomi, but it’s actually from Mandy Rose. The gift is a hotel room key. Jey asks what Jimmy wants to do with that. Jimmy says he doesn’t know.
Samoa Joe is shown walking backstage. He comes across EC3, who is posing in a mirror. Joe shakes his head and walks away.
Kayla Braxton is backstage with Andrade and Zelina Vega. Zelina tells Kayla that after Andrade defeats Rey Mysterio, he will go on to win the Royal Rumble Match and main event WrestleMania.
One on One Match: Samoa Joe vs Mustafa Ali
Samoa Joe and Mustafa Ali make their entrance for a match. Joe jumps Ali before the match can start. They brawl outside the ring, but Joe gets the upper hand and beats down Ali. Ali is deemed unable to compete and the match is called off.
Cut to a dressing room with Sonya Deville talking to Mandy Rose. Sonya asks Mandy if she is sure she wants to go through with meeting up with Jimmy Uso. Mandy says yes because she knows it will hurt Naomi and break up her marriage.
Kayla Braxton stops Samoa Joe and asks why he attacked Ali before their match. Joe says he was making a statement to the other people in the Royal Rumble Match. Joe says he will hunt down whoever the champ is after he wins the Rumble.
One on One Match: Andrade w/ Zelina Vega vs Rey Mysterio
Result: Andrade pins Mysterio
- Mysterio hits a Flip Piledriver
- Mysterio hits a Crucifux-Bomb
- Tom Phillips gets a little weird about “Temptation Island”
- With a distraction from Zelina, Andrade hits a rope-hung Hammerlock DDT for the win
Hour 2
Jimmy Uso shows up at Mandy Rose’s hotel room. He finds her waiting for him in a robe. Mandy tells him the time to play hard to get is over. She takes off her robe. Jimmy says he can’t go through with what Mandy is proposing. A paparazzo runs out from the bathroom and takes pictures of the two of them. After he runs out, Jimmy asks what the deal is. Mandy says she was never into him, but wants to make it look like he was cheating to hurt Naomi. Jimmy leaves, but Naomi comes in after him and attacks Mandy.
The Miz walks out to celebrate Shane McMahon’s birthday. Miz gives him a new pair of shoes, two cakes, and a promo package showing Shane why he’s the best. The Bar interrupt and say they will beat Shane and Miz at Royal Rumble. Shane says his birthday wish is to see Miz beat Sheamus in a match.
One on One Match: The Miz vs Sheamus
Result: Miz pins Sheamus
- Cesaro gets sent through one of the cake tables
- Miz wins with a roll-up
Shane McMahon hits the Coast-to-Coast on Sheamus after the match with his cake set up on Sheamus’s head.
