AEW Reaches Out to CM Punk

It’s been almost five years since CM Punk left the WWE. Although many fans (myself included) still hope to see him in a WWE ring one last time, it’s pretty clear that he wants nothing to do with the company. And with all the problems and trouble with the WWE doctor, I suppose that’s understandable. But what if another company wanted to add the Straight Edge Superstar to their already beefed-up roster? Well, reportedly AEW is interested.

There was a lot of buzz surrounding CM Punk’s status for ALL IN, because back in September, Cody Rhodes told WrestlingInc.com that had reached out to Punk:

“Matt [Jackson] actually made a full offer or full pitch for his services, and I think Punk is focused on the Mixed Martial Arts element of his career.”

But of course, he wasn’t part of the record-shattering show. Now that Rhodes has gone ahead with All Elite Wrestling, though, could we finally see CM Punk back in the ring? Even Chris Jericho stirred that pot a few days ago, stating that AEW management would love him there.

However, Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that reps for AEW reached out to Punk, but he just isn’t interested.

“CM Punk does not seem like he wants to do anything with pro wrestling. He has  plenty of opportunities. I know he hates WWE and he has every right to after that lawsuit. That doesn’t mean he should hate New Japan and AEW and all that.”

“The reality is, he’s still under contract with UFC somehow. Even though they’ll never use him again…if he wants to be around wrestling, he can call them. They’ve already called him, I know that.”

No surprise there. Again, as much as I adored CM Punk for what he brought to the WWE, I respect his decision to leave it completely. I also understand stepping away from wrestling completely as well. I wish he would at least do commentary for AEW, because he’s the type of presence that would instantly bring eyes to the brand. And let’s be real: CM Punk is infinitely greater at the commentary booth than, say, Coachman.

Regardless, even with no Punk, AEW is catching a lot of attention and will continue to until it is in full force.
