Zenit Asking For €40m From Chelsea For Paredes

The Russian giants are in talks with the Chelsea over ‘Fabregas replacement’ Paredes.

Chelsea and Zenit’s valuations for Leandro Paredes are apart by €10 million (£9m/$11m). However, the Russian side wants Chelsea to up their offer to €40 million (£36m/$46m).

The Premier League club’s initial approach for Paredes was €30 million (£27m/$34m). The small margin between the two valuations by both the clubs means there could soon be a positive outcome for the Argentina international.

Also, Maurizio Sarri believes Paredes is an ideal type of player to come in and deputize for Jorginho. Additionally, the man who Paredes is touted to replace, Cesc Fabregas made his debut for Monaco in the 1-1 draw against Marseille.

In addition, performance-related clauses mean that Chelsea could earn £10m ($13m) from the Fabregas transfer over the course of his three-and-a-half year contract.

Chelsea beat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday. Midfielder Jorginho struggled to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge, which Sarri admitted after the game. The Chelsea boss said the lack of back-up for Jorginho is one of the weaknesses in the squad.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has other transfer dealings going on in the January window, as Alvaro Morata could be replaced by Gonzalo Higuain. Academy star Callum Hudson-Odoi may leave the club for Bayern Munich for £35 million.
