Should Leonardo Jardim Be The Next Manchester United Boss?

The search for a new permanent manager at Manchester United is well underway following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

After the failed managerial reigns of David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, the pressure is on for Chief Executive Ed Woodward to get this one right.

The three bosses that Woodward has selected haven’t fitted with the culture and traditions of Manchester United.

They need someone who can play attractive, attacking and entertaining football.

Someone who can get the best out of young players and get the best out of the talented players already at the club.

According to the bookmakers, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to take over at Old Trafford.

It’s obvious to see why.

He has done a fantastic job at Tottenham and has developed young players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

He has managed to get the best out of a squad of players despite not spending as much money as the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, there are two big drawbacks to Pochettino.

One, it would take almost £40 million to bring him to Old Trafford, after he signed a five year contract extension in the summer.

And two, despite improving Spurs he hasn’t won a major trophy.

Pochettino may be Man Utd’s number one target but there is a manager who also ticks all the boxes.

Leonardo Jardim Achievements

Former Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim has arguably achieved more during his time in France than Pochettino has at Tottenham.

He won the Ligue 1 title in 2017 and led the team to the Champions League semi-finals, playing a fantastic attacking and hugely entertaining way.

He built a fantastic squad and helped develop young players like Thomas Lemar, Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva.

Incredibly, during his time in charge of the French principality he sold €750 million worth of talent.

Yes, when he left Monaco they were languishing near the bottom of Ligue 1.

However, it was another summer where he lost key players and it was unrealistic to expect Jardim to keep rebuilding his squad without results paying the price.

Overall he is the pefrect fit for Manchester United and is everything that the club are looking for.

But given the fact that they haven’t gone for him now, does suggest that United are holding out for Pochettino.

If they fail to land the Argentine then Jardim should be the next candidate to be considered.
