Sweden Beats Finland 2-1 in World Juniors Opener

Wednesday’s game between Sweden and Finland started with a strong lead from Sweden. The Swedish team scored once in both the first and second period. The game ended with a goal scored by Finland in the final period.

Brannstrom scored both of the Sweden’s goals during Wednesday’s game against Finland.

First Period

Nothing eventful occurred during the game until 13 minutes into the first period, when Finland got a two minute penalty for tripping. Just seconds into their power-play, Erik Brannstrom scored the first goal of the night for Sweden. Finland ended up getting yet another penalty, yet no other goals were scored during the period.

Second Period

Once again the Finland was the first team to get a penalty during the period. Three minutes and forty-three seconds in both Samuili Vainionpaa and Sami Moilanen received penalties. Just like in the first period, Erik Brannstrom scored soon after. Emil Bemstrom and Adam Boqvist both assisted Brannstrom in his goal twelve seconds into the power-play. No other goals were scored in the second period, despite the two penalties by Sweden.

Third Period

Finland received a penalty just sixteen seconds into the final period, followed by another one just over 12 minutes later. It wasn’t until there was three minutes and thirty-four seconds left into the period when Finland scored. Aarne Talvitie, assisted by Kakko and Ylonen, brought the score up to 1-2 for Finland. Despite there being no goalie in Sweden’s net for the final two minutes, Finland did not score again.
As a result, Sweden won the game 2-1.
