Three Must-See Bowl Games This Weekend

College Bowl Season is here! Schools are at the end of the semester and the weather makes us all want to stay home and do nothing. However, there are so many bowl games heading our way you’ll know all the most obscure companies known to man to smash all your friends in DJ Trivia. We are two weeks away from the College Football Playoff matchups but there are still plenty of interesting games to watch. These are the three must-see games of opening weekend for the College Football Bowl Season.

Camellia Bowl – Georgia Southern vs Eastern Michigan

The dark horse of my weekend bowl selection. A classic east vs south matchup…okay so that is not exactly normal. Georgia Southern is a respectable Sun Belt conference player known for the triple option attack. Eastern Michigan hails from Ypsilanti, Michigan (yeah, it’s pronounced Yip-si-lanti) and was close to winning their division in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). These two teams are almost equal statistically with Georgia Southern seeming to have a slight edge on offense. I want to see the boys from Ypsilanti bring home the win but the logical side of me says GSU wins.

New Mexico Bowl – Utah State vs North Texas

Utah State is favored in this matchup but North Texas shouldn’t be taken lightly. The Mean Green have some ballers at the skill positions that can flat out play. On paper, these two teams are statistically similar but with Utah State holding the edge on points scored per game (47). Utah State is a 10 game winner for a reason and I think this game has the makings of a shootout. I give a slight edge to Utah State. However, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit to see the Mean Green get their first bowl win since 2013.

Las Vegas Bowl – Arizona State vs No. 21 Fresno State

I honestly thought it was a joke last year that Herm Edwards was coming out of retirement to coach college football. The news just seemed so random seeing the guy hasn’t coached in college since the 1980s. However, Coach Edwards has done a superb job of bringing a competitive edge to this team. Arizona State was only a conference win away from playing in the Pac-12 championship game. However…

Fresno State also comes into this matchup a super competitive team that only lost by seven points in each of their two losses. The Bulldogs were considered one of the Group of 5 teams that could have landed a New Years Day Bowl gig if they would have won out. This game has loads of potential in being the most entertaining game on Saturday. I would love to see Herm Edwards get his first bowl win but this game is too close to call.

What do you think of this weekend’s bowl game matchups?
