Bears Take Down Rams In Sunday Night Football Showdown

Khalil Mack and the Chicago Bears’ defense were able to stifle the Los Angeles Rams’ powerful offense at Soldier Field this past Sunday in a frigid 24 degrees. The Bears’ defense looked in peak form, and the Rams couldn’t score against this elite defense.

Rough games from Jared Goff and Todd Gurley spelled out doom from the start for the Rams.

Bears’ Defensive Dominance

As of the end of Week 14, the Bears lead the NFL in interceptions. Going into the game, we knew it was going to be an exciting grudge match between the Rams’ top-notch offensive line and the Bears’ overpowering defensive line.

Defensive players like Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, and Leonard Floyd are enough to make scare any quarterback, and they showed why against the Rams. Jared Goff was sacked three times by the Bears and hit seven times. Their first-half command continued in this one as they only let up six points against the number two scoring Rams offense.

Eddie Goldman broke through the offensive line to force a safety on the Rams’ first drive of the second half, thus giving the Bears the edge for the rest of the game. The Rams never recovered from it and failed to score the rest of the game.

The Bears’ defense also held Todd Gurley to only 28 rushing yards. He was only handed the ball eleven times throughout the game, however. That was most likely due to the Bears’ defensive line absolutely shutting down the run this season so far. They are second in the league in that category. As of this week, they have only allowed 83.2 rushing yards per game.

Goff’s Nightmare Night

Goff had a miserable night in the cold weather. He threw for four interceptions and compiled a passer rating of 19.1 in his worst game since his rookie year. Goff has notoriously struggled in the cold weather. Most recently, he struggled in Denver against the Broncos where he only completed 50% of his passes without a single touchdown pass.

He also struggled with accuracy a little when they played in Seattle. He threw two interceptions to only one touchdown in that game. The Seahawks’ defense applied pressure throughout the game with no letup.

Because of this, he was forced to throw off-balance often. Goff is at his best when he is able to step into his throws and put some mustard on them. He was not afforded that luxury in this one. Goff will look to bounce back at home against a middle of the pack Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line.

Stat Lines Of The Night

Jared Goff – 20/44 passing, 180 yards, 0 touchdowns, and four interceptions

Todd Gurley – 11 carries, 28 yards, and 0 touchdowns

Prince Amukamara – Six combined tackles, one interception and three passes defended

Roquan Smith – Six combined tackles, one pass defended and one interception.
