WWE may be Creating a Queen of the Ring Event for 2019

Did you enjoy Evolution: WWE’s first all women’s pay-per-view? Of course you did! What kind of fan are you if you didn’t? Well, it seems that WWE isn’t going to stop at just one event for the female wrestling talent. According to the good brothers at Cultaholic, WWE is strongly considering introducing Queen of the Ring in 2019.

A King is Born…

King of the Ring is one of WWE’s annual events the fans dearly miss. It was once a staple of WWE’s pay-per-view schedule every year. It was an annual single-elimination tournament until 1989. The WWE did bring it back to a yearly event in 1994, but 2003 would be the first time since it’s revival that there wouldn’t be a King of the Ring tournament.

The tournament would come and go throughout the years after 2002. Bad News Barret is currently the most recent King of the Year; He won the crown in 2015.

A Queen is Born…

Obviously, an event like Queen of the Ring would be huge for WWE. They could crown a winner of the tournament and give them a title shot like the previous winners did in the original run of the tournament.

This string of matches could also bring attention to Female Superstars that have lost some momentum in recent years. Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James, or Asuka could benefit from winning or simply competing in the tournament. Charlotte Flair could be officially named Queen of WWE (as her name states) if she were to win this women’s only bracket.

WWE hasn’t announced the event just yet. But, according to Big Davey Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE is almost completely on board with the idea.

“At this point it’s just an idea thrown around but they are looking for ideas for a second all women’s pay-per-view show next year. With how well the first one was received, one would think they’d want to do at least one a year.”
