Penn State Victorious in Battle with Wisconsin

On Saturday, Penn State and Wisconsin battled and Penn State prevailed by a final score of 22-10 during Penn State’s annual THON game. For those not familiar, THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Each year Penn State has a THON game in which a portion of the overall ticket sales goes to THON.

Game in review

In the first half, Wisconsin got out to an early 7-0 lead but Penn State surely didn’t let that last for long. On the Nittany Lions first drive, quarterback Trace McSorley connected with DeAndre Thompkins on a 14-yard pass. Jake Pinegar missed the extra point on the second drive but managed to make three field goals the entire game. Miles Sanders also had one rushing touchdown during the game which happened on the second drive.

Penn State

This was a low scoring game for Penn State. Though the elements weren’t easy weather-wise, the Nittany Lions prevailed. Trace McSorley went 19-25 for 160 passing yards. McSorley also threw one touchdown and one interception. McSorley also had 11 rushes but didn’t really achieve much in that department.

Miles Sanders’ on the other hand, had himself a game. On 23 rushes he rushed for 161 yards and one touchdown. Receivers that led the way were K.J Hamler, Jahan Dotson, and DeAndre Thompkins. Thompkins had the only touchdown through the air.

Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Badgers were without Alex Hornibrook who was still in concussion protocol for this game. Instead, the Badgers relied on Jack Coan who completed 9-20 for just 60 yards. Coan would much rather forget this performance as he was sacked five times and intercepted twice. Coan recorded no touchdowns during the game.

Rushing wise, Jonathan Taylor lived up to all the hype he has gotten this year thus far. on 20 rushes, Taylor rushed for 187 yards and was able to find the end-zone once for the Badgers. Receiving wise for the Badgers, Danny Davis led the way with two receptions for 24 yards.

Conclusion

In the end, Penn State was victorious in a battle with Wisconsin. Up next for the Nittany Lions is a trip to New Jersey to take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University. Since Penn State defeated Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions are in running for a good bowl game still. However, they’ll need to win out to keep any hope alive.
