Astralis Sweeps Liquid At IEM Chicago

In Sunday’s Counter-Strike Global Offensive final, Astralis sweeps Liquid in 3 matches. Astralis took home a $100,000 prize for winning while Liquid had to take home $42,000 for finishing in 2nd. Their sweep at IEM Chicago puts Astralis as the best CS:GO team on the planet.

Liquid opened the match with Mirage, hoping to get an early advantage, but Astralis shut them down grabbing a 16-14 win. Their win to open the match set the stage for Astralis as Mirage was considered the best chance for Liquid in the series.

Astralis went on to continue their dominance on Nuke. As their first map pick, the jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Losing only 1 round in the second half, Astralis sealed the match with a 16-7 win putting the series at 2-0. The last map selected was Inferno. It was pure domination as the Danes would go on to win 16-4.

Astralis’ Nicolai Reedtz would be awarded the tournament MVP. This is the 10th time he has won this in his CS:GO career. His squad is currently the top team in the world and is considered by some to be the best in CS:GO history.

“It’s like the Ronaldo and Messi generation vs. Pele and Maradona; it’s so hard to look at different periods of time and look at the dominant teams and compare them, I can’t claim that we’re the best team of all time. I know NiP were completely unstoppable, and we’re nowhere even close to their map wins on LAN.” – Nicolai Reedtz

Astralis took home first place as Liquid finished second. Fnatic took 3rd and FaZe Clan finished in 4th, awarding them with $20,000 each.

So, Astralis’ took the first ever IEM Chicago in dominate fashion.
