Premier League

Manchester City Edge Spurs

A resilient Manchester City side came away with all three points from a relatively poor pitch in Wembley stadium as they managed to hold on to an early one goal lead till the full time whistle. City looked comfortable from the beginning and were causing Tottenham problems as they bossed possession. Mauricio Pochettino’s side got off to a shaky start and a long punt up-field was misjudged by Kieran Trippier. Raheem Sterling pounced on the loose ball and squared it to Riyad Mahrez who tapped home. An emotional celebration followed as Mahrez pointed to the sky as a tribute to the deceased chairman of his old club Leicester City FC after the tragedy that occurred recently involving the helicopter crash. The goal ended up being the only one of the game.

Lackluster Spurs

Tottenham were looking dicey at the back from the moment they conceded. Not only that but they also squandered numerous attacking opportunities. The most notable was Erik Lamela’s glaring second half miss. Had he scored they would have been level with the visitors. Eventually Spurs grew into the game with Moussa Sissoko looking the liveliest of the bunch. Alas, it was too little too late for the home side.

City Stay Unbeaten

After 10 games in this Premier League campaign, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are on top of the table. They have won eight and drawn two of these 10 games racking up 27 goals and conceding merely three. City not only looked far the better side at Wembley for the most part but also came away with a good result. They will hope to continue this stellar run at the Etihad when they face Southampton in a few days’ time.

As for Spurs and Pochettino, there is plenty to think about before the crucial away game at the Molineaux against Wolves. They sit in 5th place with 21 points and with a timely resurgence can make a push towards moving higher in the standings.
