Patrick Peterson Demands Trade Out Of Arizona

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patrick Peterson wants out of Arizona. Schefter reported this afternoon that the Cardinals’ Pro Bowl cornerback has officially requested to be traded by the NFL trade deadline on October 30th.

With only eight days between now and the trade deadline, a deal is difficult to get done but not impossible. Although Peterson wants out, the Arizona Cardinals do not want to trade Peterson as they see him still as a key piece moving forward. One thing is clear, Peterson does not want to be apart of a rebuild even though Arizona wants him to stay.

What Does Patrick Peterson Bring To The Table?

Although it feels like Peterson has been in the league forever, the All-Pro cornerback is only 28 entering his eighth season. Peterson is still one of the best cornerbacks in the league tied for the second most interceptions in the NFL this season.

Patrick Peterson is also the only Arizona defender this season to record a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery. With Peterson still in the middle of his prime, and the Cardinals going backward, he would be a massive upgrade for any playoff contending teams.

Most Likely Landing Spots For Patrick Peterson

New Orleans Saints

According to sources, Peterson’s ideal landing spot would be the New Orleans Saints.

The connections are obvious, Peterson attended LSU for his collegiate career, and a return to the city on a winning football team could be exactly what he needs to rejuvenate his season. The New Orleans Saints are ranked 28th in passing yards per game allowed and 27th in points per game allowed.

Although the Saints have last year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, Marshon Lattimore, adding Peterson would form a dynamic duo for years to come. In a division with Mike Evans, Julio Jones, and Devin Funchess, having these playmakers outside would be huge for a Super Bowl contender like the Saints.

Pittsburgh Steelers

A dream scenario for the Pittsburgh Steelers would be landing Peterson going into the back half of the season. The Steelers pass defense has been average at best this season. Pittsburgh ranks 27th in pass yards allowed per game, and 21st in points per game allowed. With Joe Haden providing the only serviceable play from the Steelers’ outside corner’s spot, Peterson would step right in seamlessly.

Although Joe Haden has played well, his counterpart has struggled. Artie Burns is in his third season for Pittsburgh and is only digressing. Burns has struggled all season culminating in his benching midseason. Although Burns has another year left, landing Peterson would solidify their second outside corner spot.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have surprised many people this season with their early success, although their defense has struggled. Adding an All-Pro corner to a struggling defense would be a move that can put them in Super Bowl contention.

The Chiefs have the draft capital to make a deal, owning one first-round pick and multiple second-round picks. After dealing Marcus Peters this offseason, the Chiefs added cornerback Kendall Fuller, and adding Peterson would put them over the top.

The Chiefs are ranked 31st in the NFL allowing 316.6 passing yards per game. Kansas City’s defense ranks 22nd in points per game this season. Adding Patrick Peterson to this team is a match made in heaven, making them a Super Bowl contender.

Final Thoughts

Although Peterson has demanded a trade, it appears the Arizona Cardinals want to keep their playmaker. With only eight days until the trade deadline, it will take a lot for any team to acquire the All-Pro cornerback.

Adding a player of Peterson’s caliber to a Super Bowl contender would be great for the NFL. However, Arizona wants to keep Peterson. It will be too difficult for a deal to happen this season.
