Death Valley Beatdown: Clemson Defeats NC State 41-7

Clemson defeated NC State 41-7 on Homecoming weekend. Trevor Lawrence passed for 308 yards and one passing touchdown. Travis Etienne rushed for three touchdowns and 39 yards rushing. Tee Higgins led the receivers with eight catches for 119 yards receiving and snagged a touchdown reception. Clemson finished the day with 471 yards of total offense.

Clemson’s defense mangled the NC State offense. The Tigers held NC State to 297 yards of total offense. Ryan Finley was contained to 156 yards passing, zero passing touchdowns, and threw two interceptions. On the day, Clemson held NC State to 104 yards rushing and only allowed one rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Overall, a dominant day on both sides of the ball for Clemson as they make it seven in a row against NC State.

Overall Thoughts

Clemson proved a point today. Trevor Lawrence looked in control of the offense and made NC State pay for selling out to stop the run. Although Travis Etienne was ultimately contained, he still made his impact known within the redzone, scoring three rushing touchdowns. Overall, Clemson proved today that they can win in multiple ways. Coming into this matchup, the question was whether Trevor Lawrence would be able to make plays with his arm and he passed the test. Next week Clemson plays in another rivalry game against Florida State in Tallahassee.

NC State still has plenty to play for this season. Today, the Wolfpack ran into a dominant performance from Clemson on the road. NC State can still win 10 games for the first time since the 2002 season and potentially play in a New Year’s Six Bowl. NC State goes on the road next week to face Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.

What did you think of Clemson’s performance?
