Top 5 Things That Must Happen at WrestleMania 35

We are less than six months away from the “show of shows”, WrestleMania 35. As we approach April, our anticipation for the annual spectacle has risen greatly. From rumors of Undertaker vs HBK part three to Ronda vs Charlotte possibly main eventing, expectations and excitement is at an all-time high.

Since everyone loves a countdown list, these are five things that absolutely need to happen next year at WrestleMania 35.

5: Less Nostalgia

The past generations of the WWE are what helped lay the foundation of what we know and love today. Seeing legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H make an appearance each year is always great to see. But there needs to be a point where we can let go of the past and embrace the future. Today’s stars, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, deserve more exposure on the “grandest stage of them all” than wrestlers far past their prime.

4: The Undertaker’s Last Ride

After his second loss at the hands of Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33, everyone thought The Undertaker was officially done wrestling. Then he appeared to squash John Cena in under two minutes the following year. And faced Triple H in Australia at Super Show-Down. And is scheduled to team with Kane to face D-Generation X at Crown Jewel. Now he’s rumored to face either Shawn Michaels or AJ Styles at WrestleMania 35. It seems he may never actually rest in peace.

Going back to the “less nostalgia” point, next year should be the last WrestleMania we see The Undertaker in active competition. He has nothing left to prove and more than earned a spot in the Hall of Fame. One final high profile match would be more than a great way to send off one of the greatest of all time.

3: SHIELD Triple Threat/Heel Dean Ambrose

We have already seen Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns face off face-to-face-to-face on two separate occasions now (once in FCW and again at Battleground 2016). But a match like this deserves the grand stage. Dean, Seth, and Roman are arguably three of the best workers in professional wrestling today. Having them face off one more time for the Universal Championship will bring major attention to WWE.

As it concerns Ambrose specifically, it’s painfully obvious he makes a better heel than a face. Sure, the fans will cheer for him no matter what. But much like Becky Lynch over on SmackDown Live, or Stone Cold Steve Austin in the 90’s, a bad guy can be cheered and still get over. To see Ambrose break away from the SHIELD and make a run with the top tier championship on Monday Nights would be a huge plus for his career. Besides, who wouldn’t love to see another Seth/Dean feud as we saw in 2014 and 2015 but with the roles reversed?

2: Make the Pre-Show Battle Royals Matter

Naomi still hasn’t received her trophy nor her championship match for winning the inaugural WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal this year.

When the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal debuted, it got a lot of attention. But nothing has come of past winners so far. Sure, Cesaro and Matt Hardy went on to win tag team gold, but what about the others? Mojo, Corbin, and The Big Show didn’t get anything after they won.

Battle royals are always great to see because they capture the excitement of the Royal Rumble in under twenty minutes. But at least the Royal Rumble winner gets something other than a trophy. Maybe defend the United States or Intercontinental Championship to give the competitors something to compete for. Maybe introduce a Money in the Bank type winning stipulation where the winner gets a title match whenever they want.

Whatever they end of doing, the winner should be given something more important than a trophy some of the winners don’t even get.

1: Women in the Main Event

It’s thirty-four years in the making. With Ronda Rousey taking RAW by storm, and Becky and Charlotte tearing down SmackDown Live, it’s time the women finally main event WrestleMania.

Since Ronda’s debut this past January’s Royal Rumble, it’s rumored the planned main event is Rousey vs Flair for the RAW Women’s Championship. Honestly, would there be a bigger match these days in the women’s division that could top that? The best women’s wrestler on either roster against the globally recognized UFC star? The Baddest Woman on the Planet vs The Nature Girl. Need I go on?

With Evolution taking place on October 28, the women’s division has never been hotter in the history of WWE. With Women Superstars finally getting the chance they’ve been working hard to get, who would really say no to a women’s main event at WrestleMania? It would grab mainstream attention. It would open up more opportunities to hire more talent once they see WWE is the place of the opportunity it claims to be. And it would be great, as long as the right people are given the spotlight. Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey will get a bigger ovation than Nikki Bella vs Lana every single time.

2019 is the year to put all these ideas into action. Seeing WrestleMania 35 execute these orders should be the changing of the guard WWE desperately needs right now. Maybe a few, if not all, of these five things are brought to reality come WrestleMania season.
