Inter vs Milan Derby della Madonnina Preview

Inter and Milan face off in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night at the San Siro.

Both sides come into the derby in good form. Inter have won their last six games in all competitions, including their last four Serie A games.

That good run of form has seen them leap up the Serie A table. They are currently third in the standings, but are still eight points behind runaway leaders Juventus.

Meanwhile, Milan are also in good form and are currently on a eight game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Their only defeat so far this season came in their season opener against Napoli at the San Paolo.

Despite their good run of form they are still down in 10th place in the Serie A table.

Failing to turn drawn games into wins has been part of Milan’s problem so far this season, having drawn three of their seven Serie A games.

The Milan derby will see Argentine teammates Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi go head to head.

Both have been in great form recently. Icardi has scored five goals in his last six games for Inter.

Meanwhile, Higuain is Milan’s top goalscorer with seven goals in all competitions.

Team News

Both Luciano Spalletti and Gennaro Gattuso have their strongest starting XI’s at their disposal.

Inter currently don’t have any injured players. While the only players missing for Milan are out of favor Riccardo Montolivo and the injured Ivan Strinic.

Davide Calabria is expected to keep his starting spot at right-back in the Croatian’s absence.

Previous Encounters

Inter defeated Milan last season thanks to a Mauro Icardi hat-trick. The Argentine scored a last minute penalty to secure the victory.

Their most recent meeting came in April and finished goalless.

Inter have won just one of their last six competitive meetings with Milan.

The Nerazzuri have also failed to score a goal in their last two games against the Rossoneri.

Meanwhile, Milan haven’t defeated Inter ‘away from home’ since 2010 where they won 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Predicted Line-Ups

Inter (4-2-3-1) Handanovic, Vrsaljko, De Vrij, Skriniar, Asamoah, Vecino, Brozovic, Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic, Icardi

Milan (4-3-3) Donnarumma, Calabria, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez, Kessie, Biglia, Bonaventura, Suso, Higuain, Calhanoglu

Match Prediction

Both Inter and Milan have been in good form of late and the match will feature contrasting styles of play.

Inter have been playing a pragmatic, physical and efficient type of football.

Meanwhile, Milan have been playing free flowing attacking football and have scored 10 goals in their last three games.

Despite looking good going forward Milan have been poor in defense.

Gattuso’s men have conceded 10 goals in just seven Serie A games so far this season.

Having saying that Inter defense is far from waterproof, as Spalletti’s men have kept just three clean sheets in all competitions.

Both sides need a win. Inter will be looking to keep up their growing momentum and hang onto the coat-tails of Juventus.

As for Milan, they need to start turning draws into wins and start challenging for a Champions League spot.

Expect a free flowing and open game with both sides strengths lying in the forward areas.

Prediction: Inter 2-2 Milan
