Sadio Mane Recovering From Hand Surgery

Liverpool left winger Sadio Mane suffered a broken thumb while on international duty with Senegal this week.

The Senegal star was sent back to Liverpool where he was immediately sent for surgery after further medical examination.

A formal announcement by the club reveals the surgery and that he is now in recovery:

“The surgery, conducted at a north-west hospital and supervised by club medics, was successful,” read the statement.

Liverpool returns to action against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

There are no indications that he will be ready for the match, however, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has yet to comment.

The 26-year-old has featured in for Klopp’s side 11 out of 11 matches in all competitions. Additionally, he has four goals in Premier League competition thus far.

The will likely stand on the cautious side given the fact that they are in theory facing a lesser opponent. Nevertheless, we have seen how bottom of the table clubs put up a fight against greater opponents.

Unfortunately, Liverpool will also be without Mohamed Salah who is suffering from a muscle strain from international duty with Egypt against Swaziland. Naby Keita is suffering from a hamstring injury while with Guinea.  Virgil van Dijk is suffering from broken ribs. Additionally, James Milner will miss out with a hamstring problem of his own.

This opens the door for Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge as starters against the Terriers.

Their next opponent will be Red Star Belgrade for Champions League action on Wednesday.
