Seth Rollins Says He’d Like to Wrestle Kenny Omega

This past Friday, Seth Rollins was part of a fan Q&A at ACE Comic Con in Chicago.

Along side Alexa Bliss, Seth answered questions the fans had for them. At one point a fan asked which wrestler, not signed by the WWE, Seth would like to face in the future. In a little bit of a surprise, Seth Rollins said he’d like to face IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.

Fans were excited to hear The Kingslayer call out The Cleaner. Many thought this teased a possible future dream match. Obviously, with Omega signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling, this match would be very unlikely to happen in the near future.

Omega’s Response

Word quickly made its way back to Omega, who tweeted out his response soon after.

Many have wondered if this meant WWE’s upcoming special Crown Jewel in November. Others speculated it meant NJPW show Wrestle Kingdom.

WWElite?

Kenny Omega spoke about being with WWE to Sports Illustrated. In the interview, Omega wondered if he would be the same Kenny Omega in WWE as he was in NJPW. He states that he will have a lot of great matches with top guys (Seth Rollins in this instance) but only if he is the “real him”.

“I realize that there are people that are employed by that promotion that I could have a good match with… There are people within that promotion where, if we had that said match, it could generate multiple communities celebrating the performance. That’s what happened when the Bucks and I did the gaming battle with the New Day. If I wrestled one of their top guys, people would watch that match in the anticipation of something great happening.” -quote courtesy of Sports Illustrated

What ifs

At the end of this year, Omega’s contract with NJPW expires. Since he is their current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, it is likely Omega will stay. In the case that he does decide to move promotions, he says “The Elite will stay together”. That means The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes would follow Omega wherever he decides to go.

“But right now, it’s all, ‘What if?’ fantasy scenarios. It’s going to stay that way until it happens, if it ever even happens, because you never know what type of limitations are going to be placed on those matches. If Kenny Omega is allowed to be Kenny Omega, then those matches would be really special. Would I be allowed to be myself, the real Kenny Omega, within that realm? In a way, it’s almost more exciting to think about what it could be rather than see what it would be.” -quote courtesy of Sports Illustrated

Kenny and The Elite are notorious when it comes to teasing the fans. In 2015, Kenny heavily implied he was debuting in the 2016 Royal Rumble. Instead, future WWE Champion AJ Styles made his debut. Matt and Nick Jackson are also no strangers to making the fans think they’re jumping ship.

Of course, as of now, Seth Rollins and Kenny Omega are in two different promotions. Unless they were allowed to transition over for one match, this fantasy match is not going to happen. Even that is very unlikely, since WWE usually doesn’t want their talent wrestling in other major promotions.

Perhaps Kenny and The Elite don’t re-sign with NJPW. Maybe they do sign with WWE. Maybe the main event of WrestleMania 35 is Kenny Omega vs Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship. For right now at least, it’s not going to happen.
