Yankees Down to Final Strike after Boston Blowout

Last night was not friendly to the New York Yankees. The Yankees suffered a miserable loss to the Boston Red Sox 16-1 at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox offense exploded against Luis Severino as Brock Holt also hit for the first cycle in MLB postseason history. Severino lasted just three innings allowing seven hits, six earned runs, two walks, and had two strikeouts. It was obvious early the Severino lacked his normal command; which resulted in on offensive explosion from Boston. On the other side, Nathan Eovaldi was dominant against the Yankees. He went seven masterful innings, allowing five hits, one run, no walks, and had five strikeouts. Tonight, Rick Porcello will take on CC Sabathia in a decisive Game 4 at 8:07 pm EST on TBS.

Game Recap

Christian Vazquez singled home Rafael Devers to get the Red Sox scoring started. In the top of the third, JD Martinez hit a sac-fly to score MVP-hopeful Mookie Betts. Devers followed suit with an RBI groundout and it was 3-0 Boston heading into the fourth. The Yankees bullpen imploded. After a three-run double from Andrew Benintendi, Steve Pearce singled him home to make it 8-0 Red Sox. Brock Holt later tripled home two more runs and it was 10-0 Boston after four innings. Didi Gregorius hit in the only Yankees run with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth.

The Red Sox offense was not done yet. In the seventh, JD Martinez singled home another run to make it 11-0. In the top of the eighth, Brock Holt hit a ground-rule double, Ian Kinsler scored on a wild pitch, and Mookie Betts tacked on an RBI single to make it 14-1. Holt struck again in the top of the ninth with a two-run shot to make it 16-1 Boston.

Brock Holt Hits First Postseason Cycle in MLB History

Brock Holt is the first player in MLB history to hit a cycle in MLB history. To secure the cycle, Holt homered off Yankees catcher Austin Romine in the top of the ninth. Holt finished the night 4-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored. The bottom of the Red Sox lineup, including Holt, as done much of the damage against the Yankees in the series. Continue to look for Brock Holt to produce the rest of the way for Boston.
