Top 10 Contenders for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

As WWE’s first all women’s pay-per-view, Evolution, quickly approaches, many have been speculating that WWE is finally creating a women’s tag team division. A supposed leaked match card revealed a women’s tag team championships match. But, as of now, it’s all rumors leading into Evolution. If they do announce the championships, these are the top ten teams who would most likely win the gold.

10: Beth Phoenix and Natalya

These two women are best friends both on screen and in real life. Natalya and Beth have both teamed together in the past. Beth is retired, but she did make a return during the Women’s Royal Rumble this past January. Since Natalya isn’t scheduled for Evolution yet, it would be nice to see her reunite with her best friend.

9: UFC Four Horsewomen

More specifically, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir. Since Shayna Bazler is competing for the NXT Women’s Championship, and Ronda Rousey is defending the RAW Women’s Championship, the recently debuting Duke and Shafir could make their main roster debut at Evolution.

8: LayCool

It’s been almost a decade since we last saw Layla in a WWE ring. Michelle McCool recently returned during the Women’s Royal Rumble. As the first and so far only co-WWE Women’s Champions, it would be quite the sight to see a LayCool reunion in a Women’s Tag Team Championships match.

7: Asuka and Naomi

This odd couple of sorts has been teaming up recently on SmackDown Live. Asuka hasn’t won a main roster championship yet, but she isn’t a stranger to singles gold. Naomi is a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion.

6: Alicia Fox and Brie Bella

This one is a bit of a stretch. In 2015, three women stables were created on Monday Night RAW: Team PCB, Team B.A.D., and Team Bella. Alicia Fox was part of Team Bella during that time. Since Nikki is competing for the RAW Women’s Championship, Brie needs a match. A Team Bella reunion could be the match she needs.

5: AJ Lee and Kaitlyn

Since Kaitlyn made her return in 2018’s Mae Young Classic, fans have been clamoring for a possible full-time return for the former Diva’s Champion. Kaitlyn hasn’t shown any interest in coming back full time. So far, AJ Lee hasn’t shown any desire in a WWE return. Since these two were once teammates in WWE, maybe a Women’s Tag Team Championships match will bring AJ and Kaitlyn back.

4: Sasha Banks and Bayley

Sasha Banks is currently on the shelf with an unspecified injury. But since earlier this summer, Sasha and Bayley have been teaming up on a weekly basis. If Sasha is good to go by the time Evolution rolls around, they may be a top contender for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.

3: Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

These two have had a rough run so far on SmackDown Live. After Paige announced her retirement and left the group, Rose and Deville haven’t had much success in singles competition. But they would surely excel in a tag team setting, as they’ve proven in the past.

2: The IIconics

After these two debuted on SmackDown Live, they’ve been the top of the women’s tag roster. The duo defeated Asuka and Naomi in their home country at Super Show-Down. One can only imagine how unbearably annoying they’d be if they were champions.

1: The Riott Squad

There isn’t a more popular female team in WWE right now. Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, and Ruby Riott have caught the attention of fans all over the world. Though they have been on a losing streak against the Bellas and Ronda Rousey recently, they have shown they can put on great matches with just about every female wrestler on Monday Night RAW. Together, no other team in WWE would be more dominant as women’s tag team champions.

Honorable Mentions:

The Bella Twins:

Since Nikki isn’t available at Evolution, this seems unlikely. If the titles aren’t debuting at Evolution, and at a later date, then it seems more likely that Brie and Nikki compete for the title.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch:

With recent events, this seems impossible. If the two former friends make amends, then it may be more likely.

The Funkadactyls:

Cameron was released from the WWE in 2016. Since Evolution is bringing back all kinds of former WWE Superstars, a reunion with Naomi would be nice to see.

WWE Four Horsewomen:

With Becky and Charlotte feuding on SmackDown Live, and Bayley and Sasha over on Monday Night RAW, this wouldn’t seem all that likely. But using the Freebird rule, the Four Horsewomen could run the Women’s Tag Team division.
