Anthony Harris is Heading to Virginia Tech

Combo guard Anthony Harris verbally committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies, giving Buzz Williams’ program a four-star recruit. Returning from a visit to Duke, Harris made the decision over the weekend after also considering over 10 other schools that were mainly in the Atlantic. Those schools include Wake Forest, Louisville, Georgia, Miami, Maryland, Cincinnati, Boston College, and more.

An All-Around Player

Playing for Paul VI, Harris has much praise for being able to produce on both sides of the basketball court. Averaging 12.9 points per game, Harris was able to turn in solid numbers even after missing the beginning of last season due to a fractured knee. His coach Glen Farello speaks highly of Anthony’s ability to defend as well.

“I like to call him a complete guard. He will be a playmaker. He will be able to score. I think he’s one of the best defenders we have here at PVI. He brings toughness. He’s a winner.”

Harris had two separate games with four steals during the late season in 2017-’18, struggling on offense in those games. Even when his shot isn’t falling, the 64th ranked national prospect finds ways to still produce positive results.

AAU

During Harris’ run in AAU, his team finished 23-1 overall which did include a Pearl Jam Championship. Spreading the stat sheet out, Harris saw an average of roughly eight points, three assists and two rebounds per game. Probably the most impressive stat, however, was his shooting from beyond the arc. Harris hit 21 of his 48 three-point shots, a solid average over a consistent amount of playing time.

The Hokies still have much work to do in the 2019 recruiting class. Harris’ commitment is a nice start though, as it is their first top 75 recruit for 2019 along with being their first overall.
