Clemson vs Wake Forest Football Preview

Clemson vs Wake Forest. What is usually a snooze fest could potentially be an exciting matchup in the ACC. Clemson travels to Winston-Salem and Wake Forest could have some sneakiness up its sleeve. Last year Clemson won 28-14, but all 14 of those points came in the fourth quarter for the Demon Deacons. Syracuse almost got the best of Clemson last week; can Wake Forest take down the Tigers?

Last week, Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the Syracuse game leaving the Tigers to rely on Travis Etienne to help will them to victory. The doctors have given Lawrence the okay to start this week, so watch for the passing game to be back in full force. Clemson is averaging almost 500 yards a game of total offense and that train doesn’t look like it is going to slow down this week. Unfortunately for Wake Forest, their defense is nothing to fear. The Demon Deacons are allowing over 460 yards of offense a game against them. Unless Wake Forest can get some momentum on defense early, this may be a track meet the Demon Deacons aren’t ready to run.

Advantage: Clemson

Here is where Wake Forest can make this a game if they catch Clemson sleeping. Wake Forest rolls into the game averaging almost 500 yards of total offense. The Demon Deacons have an electrifying play-maker in Greg Dortch and a veteran offensive line (aka the Beef Boys). The problem is Clemson is only allowing around 263 yards a game and only 95 of that is rushing yards. Wake Forest needs freshman QB Sam Hartman to be smart, not turn the ball over, and take advantage of any 1-on-1 matchups Dortch manages to get. I’m just not sure if Wake Forest is going to have enough offensive firepower to keep up, due to Clemson’s defense.

What Happens?

Clemson faces an amped up Wake Forest squad ready to give the Tigers all they have. After the teams start to settle down, Clemson begins to overwhelm Wake Forest on offense. Wake Forest makes a few scores against Clemson’s defense, but the Tigers eventually clamp down and cause fits. In the second half Clemson pulls away and head into their bye week with a victory.
