Brew Crew Beginning to Close on Cubbies

September baseball is quickly beginning to heat up. The race for the NL Central is getting closer and closer with each passing day. The Brewers have quickly closed the gap on the Cubs. The division lead has shrunk and the Brewers now sit 1.5 GB of the Cubs. What has led to this recent surge? The Brewers offense is continuing to rake, and the pitching staff is finally coming together. The Brew Crew have won eight of their last ten games overall, and hold the top Wild Card spot in the National League. Should the season end today, the Brewers would be hosting the Wild Card game against the either the Dodgers or the Cardinals.

Are the Brewers for Real in 2018?

After just missing out on the postseason a year ago, the Brewers are looking to avoid that fate again. With no signs of them slowing down, Christian Yelich, Travis Shaw, Moose, and Jesus Aguilar are carrying the Brewers offense towards their first playoff berth since 2011.

The pitching staff has been the biggest concern for the Brewers this season. With Jimmy Nelson and Zach Davies (who is nearing a return) out due to injuries, the Brewers have relied on young starters/relievers to win games. Some of these guys have stepped up dramatically to help reach October baseball. Brent Suter, Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta, and veterans Chase Anderson, Wade Miley, and newly-acquired Gio Gonzalez have solidified the Brewers pitching. Their bullpen has been one of the best in baseball in 2018. Corey Knebel, Jeremy Jeffress, and Josh Hader have also been some of the nastiest relief pitchers in all of baseball. The Brewers have a solid, young core of players to lead them to a World Series title.

How Will the Brewers Fare in October Baseball?

When the Brewers make the playoffs, they certainly have the talent to make a deep run to their first World Series title in franchise history. With Yelich, Shaw, and Lorenzo Cain leading the charge, the Brewers are poised to be one of the more dangerous teams in the National League. After missing out on the postseason a year ago, the Brew Crew is certainly starved for postseason baseball. They will be an exciting team to watch down the stretch.
