Evolution Ticket Sales are Weak

At the end of July, the WWE made history with their announcement of Evolution. This will be the first all-women pay-per-view. The show will take place on October 28 on Long Island at NYCB Live. This pay-per-view was meant to cater to the women who were left out of the Greatest Royal Rumble overseas. Additionally, it is said to showcase the transition from the ladies of the “Divas” era to the “Women Superstars.”

Slowly, but surely, matches have been announced for this once-in-a-lifetime event. From Trish Stratus taking on Alexa Bliss to Lita squaring up with Mickie James, the possibilities feel endless. But despite all the “Attitude Era” star power that the WWE is seemingly bringing in, the ticket sales doesn’t reflect as great of a spectacle as it truly is.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the pay-per-view just can’t pick up steam for its ticket sales:

“They’ve sold 7,000. 2,400 of them went to scalpers. I wouldn’t call it bad. The building will probably end up full when all is said and done, but it’s not nearly as hot a ticket as I expected it to be…it’s not a flop, but it’s definitely weaker than probably any WWE PPV in a long time.”

Hopefully, on this case, Meltzer is wrong and it turns out to be a huge draw. Unfortunately, the lack of great storytelling continues to be a problem with both the men and women Superstars alike. If some of the greatest women to ever step foot in the WWE can’t bring crowds in, then who can?

Let’s Light it Up

The one who probably would be an ideal candidate to draw fans in is, of course, AJ Lee. As we all know, AJ Lee left the company shortly after her marriage to CM Punk. And while she hasn’t written out a WWE return, it isn’t looking likely, either.

According to a backstage insider, WWE has contacted AJ about a return for about a month. However, those messages have gone unanswered. It is rumored now that if AJ Lee is not set to make an appearance at this pay-per-view, “All Red Everything” herself will make a one-time-only appearance.

Eva Marie has been busy working on other projects since her departure from the WWE. It is hard to say whether she will be welcomed back warmly by the fans who really hope to see one of the true pioneers of the Women’s Division.

No matter what, the only way to really ramp up ticket sales for Evolution is to bring more stars, old and new, that have the amount of drawing power the WWE is looking for. Even going outside the box might be a good idea to get the sales moving: Emma, Chelsea Green, Sienna the Savage just to name a few. My other thought is that maybe the world isn’t quite ready for an all-women’s PPV. Or maybe they were, years ago, when the WWE was still making the ladies participate in musical chairs on NXT.

Here’s hope that the WWE will pull it together in the next month, otherwise the viewership will likely be down as well.
