Ravens vs. Bills Week 1 Review

Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season had its fair share of excitement. The Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens met for the eighth time in their history for an old-fashioned grudge match. The Ravens vs. Bills match-up was previewed by TSJ earlier in the week.

This game should have huge implications on both the Ravens and Bills’ 2018 seasons. In an inclement weather match-up, both of these teams came to play—or did they?

1st Half

Even John Harbaugh couldn’t have predicted the 1st half going this well. Baltimore wasted no time, immediately initiating the game with a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive, finished by Alex Collins on an 8-yard rushing TD. Baltimore would have a pass-first attack in the first half, with Flacco finishing the half with 217 yards and two TDs.

In contrast, Buffalo had 0 first downs in the first half. The Bills looked as lethargic as any offense could look. Nathan Peterman was 4-13 in the 1st half, throwing for a mere 25 yards and an interception. Baltimore led Buffalo 26-0 at the conclusion of the 1st half.

2nd Half

Buffalo began the 2nd half as only Buffalo could, with a turnover. A Corey Bojorquez fumble put the Ravens in prime position to score once again. A 13-yard touchdown pass to Willie Snead ensued a few plays later, completing the trifecta of Ravens’ offensive free agency signings to score TDs. Buffalo preceded to turn the ball over once again, this time on another Peterman interception. After a Buck Allen touchdown, the Ravens were up 40-0.

Buffalo would decide the following drive that it was Josh Allen time. On his 2nd drive, Allen would lead Buffalo on a 12-play, 46-yard drive down the field, resulting in a field goal. Allen would finish the game 6-15 for 74 yards, adding 26 yards rushing. Baltimore would continue its domination—winning the game 47-3.

Fantasy Implications

The huge fantasy winner of this game was definitely the Baltimore Ravens defense/special teams. With two interceptions and only three points allowed, Baltimore is sure to be in the discussion for one of the best defenses of Week 1.

Joe Flacco finished the game with 234 yards and three TDs, putting up a respectable 21.7 points. John Brown, Buck Allen, Willie Snead, and Kenneth Dixon each finished over ten points in PPR leagues. That wraps up our Ravens vs. Bills Week 1 recap, be sure to check out our other recaps!
