Clemson Tigers Destroy Furman 48-7

The Clemson Tigers started the season with a bang as they destroy Furman 48-7.  There is plenty to dive in to after a good effort on both sides of the ball. Clemson freshman players made some plays. The quarterbacks had some shining moments. Clemson’s defense looks and plays the part of domination. Overall, a great day to be a Clemson fan seeing the Tigers play.

Clemson QB Takeaways

All eyes were on the Clemson QBs this game. Kelly Bryant got off to a rocky start, but managed to salvage the day. Bryant’s final numbers were 10 of 16 passing with 127 yards through the air and 2 total touchdowns. Trevor Lawrence was 9 of 15 passing with 137 yards through the air and 3 passing touchdowns. Clemson has plenty to be happy about in their QB situation. Kelly Bryant rose to the competition later in the day, but early on I thought Trevor Lawrence had the momentum. I look forward to what happens next week at Texas A&M between these two.

Clemson Freshman Stand Outs

Clemson had plenty of freshman stand outs on Saturday on both sides of the ball. Starting with offense, Trevor Lawrence found his rhythm and proceeded to look like the QB of the future. Brendan Galloway made some nice plays and snagged his first receiving touchdown. Justyn Ross had a nice catch and run for a score. Lyn-J Dixon burst onto the scene with a 61 yard run and led all the runningbacks with 89 yards rushing. On defense, the likes of Xavier Thomas and KJ Henry made their presence felt. Clemson looks scary good in depth on defense.

Overall Thoughts

Clemson did what most thought they would do: dominate. The first series on offense left a lot to be desired, but once Clemson found the groove, it was a freight train going down hill. Furman did not go down lightly. Although the score board showed a beat down, Furman made Clemson work for everything. Clemson looks great on both sides of the ball, even if it is Furman they are playing to start the season. Next week Clemson travels to Kyle Field to take on Texas A&M in what is sure to be Clemson’s first test of the season.
