Cody Rhodes is the New NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship

All In was a once in a lifetime event for those who got to see it live or at home on pay-per-view. The night was full of exciting and entertaining matches. But the most important contest of the night came surprisingly early. Built on a financial gamble, it was a do or die situation for Cody in many ways. But his battle for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight championship was going to be his biggest in part of his family’s legacy.

Cody Rhodes, former ROH World Champion, challenged NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis to a match. Nick Aldis accepted and agreed to put his championship on the line.

For Cody, this was more than just a world championship match. His father, the late, great, WWE Hall of Famer, Dusty Rhodes is a three-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion. The championship is often considered “Dusty’s belt” due to him being one of the biggest stars of the NWA. If Cody were to defeat Aldis, he would become the first second-generation NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion.

Carrying on the Legacy

Cody Rhodes dedicated his ring gear to his brother and late father. “Do the Work” was embedded on a weightlifting belt he wore during the match. “Do” was patterned with black and yellow polka dots, in memory of his father. “The” was colored gold, as an homage to his brother, Dustin, who plays the Goldust character in WWE. “Work” was patterned with an American flag, because of Cody’s nickname “The American Nightmare”; That name is also a special shout out because his father was the “American Dream” and his older brother was the “Shattered Dream”.

“….Shattered dreams turn to nightmares….” As Cody once said.

After a hard fought match, Cody Rhodes picked up the win and the NWA Worlds Heavyweight championship. With this, Cody has become the first ever second-generation NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion, because of his father winning before him.

It was an emotional moment for the Rhodes’ family and fans alike. Cody was able to fulfill what is considered his destiny at a show he created.

Congratulations to Cody Rhodes on winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Hopefully, he holds on to the belt for a very long time.
